Cooling cold cap chemo-Advanced cold therapy
Cold caps with 6 cold zones for a better integral contact and better medical result.
Possibility to preserve your ponytail by an easy back-opening.
Can help to reduce hair loss.
Functions as a cooling helmet on your head.
Medical device (*).
Advantages
- As a patient, you are not dependent on the availability of a cooling machine in the day center. The scheduling of your treatment will not be delayed
- Hair saving: maximum preservation of your hair
- Loss of hair: preservation-retention of your ponytail
- The cooling temperature lasts up to 90 minutes
- Cooling is applied only where it is medically necessary: limited treatment area and it is easy to wear the cooling cap correctly
- The helmet does not sink too low on the neck, avoiding contraindications of some other cooling helmets *4
- You can move during the chemo session if you need to, for example, to go to the bathroom
- No chin strap around your chin and no elastic cords on top of the helmet
- The cooling helmet treatment does not extend hospital stay.
The treatment can start 15-30 minutes before infusion administration.
The helmet should be used 1, sometimes 2 hours after the end of treatment (depending on the concentration advised by the oncologist and thus not dependent on a machine).
This will therefore at least be a treatment that provides relief and/or frees up time for patients, staff, and optimal use of cooling machines - Hospitals
- Many more patients can be treated

Function
- Cytostatics disrupt cell growth or cell division.
Therefore, they primarily damage rapidly growing cells, such as epithelial cells (including hair follicle cells) - The cooling effect of the cold cap reduces blood flow to the scalp, by narrowing (vasoconstriction) the blood vessels beneath the skin of the scalp
- Reduces the amount of chemotherapy medication that reaches this area
- Helps in different cased to prevent or reduce hair loss

Precautions
- Consult your doctor, oncologist, physiotherapist, or nurse before using this new product.
Instructions for use - Application of scalp cooling for the cooling cap
- Follow the product recommendations in the manufacturer's instructions, depending on the duration of use.
The general recommendation from the manufacturer for the treatment of sports injuries is only 20 minutes, but the treatment time for chemotherapy is much longer (see above).
The cooling duration of these cooling elements is up to 90 minutes: the cold packs deliver their performance evenly and over a longer period. - How are they used? Advice for using the cooling cap.
- Between chemotherapy sessions, the cooling elements are stored in the freezer (freeze for at least 2 hours at -18 °C).
The cooling caps can remain in the freezer indefinitely and will remain soft and flexible. - How do I store them in the deep freezer?
In the manufacturer's packaging.
Do not come into contact with food. - On the day of treatment, place in a small cooler.
- How can I keep the cooling cap cold longer in the cooler?
For example, place them in an insulated bag, a towel, a flannel, etc. - You may wear a disposable or surgical cap.
- Start cooling the scalp 10-15 minutes (or 30' *2) before the chemo / or before starting (= dripping) the infusion.
- For cold therapy, place a piece of fabric/insulating material between the cooling pad and the skin.
Suitable interlayers include: a light towel, a piece of fabric, a sheet/pillowcase (cut to size), 6 layers of paper towels, or a jersey. - The infusion solution is administered via an intravenous infusion (drip infusion).
- Keep the cooling cap on during chemotherapy *.
- After the infusion, the cooling cap should still be worn for 10-15 minutes (or 90' *2) after chemotherapy *.
Own cooling cap? You can leave with it if allowed. - *2 The exact duration of treatment is determined by the attending physician.
The total duration also depends on the concentration or strength of the medication and how quickly the medication is "eliminated" via the kidneys. - If you cannot tolerate this cold, you can place a cloth, towel, or other insulating material between the cap and the skin during use.
- Allow the cooling cap to dry before placing it back in the freezer.
- Between chemotherapy sessions, the cooling elements are stored in the freezer (freeze for at least 2 hours at -18 °C).
- If in doubt, consult your attending physician, oncologist, case manager nurse, nurse, or dermatologist.
Recommendations
- We recommend the use of a extra tight swim cap. Reason: tight handgloves showed good results in limiting blood flow in fingers during chemotherapy in Japanese studies. The same mechanical effect can be expected for the head/skull. Other litterature suggest that a combined effect oof cryotherapy and compression seems to give better results (*2.)
Where can I buy a cold cap for chemo?
You may buy cooling cold caps from a medical company, officially registered with the Belgian ministry of economic affairs, division medical devices and the ministry of health, registration as a bachelor hospital nurse.
